Black History Month is an observance of the history of the African diaspora in a number of countries outside of Africa. Since 1976, it is observed annually in the United States and Canada in February, while in the United Kingdom it is observed in October. In the U.S., Black History Month is also referred to as African-American History Month. Black History Month was begun as Negro History Week by historian Carter G. Woodson in 1926.

We should emphasize not Negro History, but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias, race hate, and religious prejudice.

- Dr. Carter G. Woodson on the founding Negro History Week, 1926

Resources and Links

Church Information

Here are resources and links that we highly recommend.

The Office of Reconciliation Ministries is part of the Worldwide Church of God. Their mission states that they exist “To share the good news that God has reconciled all mankind to Himself through Christ and that we can all get along.” Please visit their site to learn more about racism and reconciliation. Be sure to check out the Resources page.

We highly recommend a video titled Called to be Free, by Living Hope Video Ministries. It’s an awesome video about the journey of the Worldwide Church of God from legalism to grace, from heresy to orthodoxy, and from being a cult to being part of the Body of Christ. The video will inspire you and encourage you as you learn about a modern day miracle. The video is available for $4; shipping is free in the U.S. Click here to watch online for free or to order. Living Hope Video Ministries is not affiliated with the Worldwide Church of God.

The Shack by William P. Young is a powerful little novel that will enlighten you about Trinitarian theology. This novel will challenge the way you view the Christian faith. You can order The Shack from Amazon.com or through TheShack website by clicking here.

Summary Statement of Beliefs

Church Information

Summary of Our Christian Faith

  • There is one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • God the Father made all things through the Son, sent the Son for our salvation, and gives us the Holy Spirit.
  • The Son of God, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, was born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully human, and is the perfect revelation of the Father and the perfect representative of humanity. He suffered and died on the cross for all human sin, was raised bodily on the third day, and ascended to heaven. Standing in for all humanity before the Father, Jesus Christ provides the perfect human response to God. Since he died for all, all died in him, and all will be made alive in him.
  • The Holy Spirit brings sinners to repentance and faith, assures believers of their forgiveness and acceptance as God’s dearly loved children, and works in them to conform them to the image of Jesus Christ.
  • The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God that testifies to Jesus Christ. The Bible is fully authoritative for all matters of faith and salvation.
  • Salvation comes only by God’s grace and not by works, and it is experienced through faith in Jesus Christ. Christians respond to the joy of salvation when they gather in regular fellowship and live godly lives in Jesus Christ.
  • We look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come.
